Spring air can feel refreshing, or irritating, depending on environmental triggers like pollen and indoor allergens. For individuals with allergies, asthma or breathing challenges, awareness and preparation are essential.
PHMP Health Coach Melanie reminds us, “Preparing for spring allergies is most effective when started before pollen levels peak.” Monitoring pollen reports, washing bedding frequently and using HEPA air filters indoors can significantly reduce symptoms.
Breathing techniques are another powerful support. PHMP Health Coach Linn explains, “Pursed lip breathing keeps airways open longer, allowing more air to move in and out of the lungs.” Diaphragmatic (belly) breathing further improves oxygen exchange and reduces breathlessness during activity.

Together, environmental awareness and intentional breathing can help you move through spring more comfortably and confidently.
Weekly Challenge: Breath Awareness
Practice pursed-lip breathing for 5 minutes, twice daily, during activity or rest.
