As December winds down, the rush of the holidays often leaves us feeling drained. Before jumping into the new year, take time to pause, reflect and recharge. This isn’t about making more lists or setting lofty goals, it’s about creating space to appreciate what you’ve accomplished and prepare for what’s ahead with clarity and calm.

“As we come to the end of 2025 and start looking towards our goals for 2026, do not forget to allow time and space for transition. Think about and celebrate the goals you achieved, and what you learned about the goals you did not achieve. Taking time to reflect now will help better prepare you for next year’s challenges!” – Health Coach, Linn

Reflection doesn’t have to be complicated. A few quiet minutes can make a big difference.

Here are simple ways to close the year with intention:

  • Celebrate progress: Write down three things you’re proud of from this year, big or small.
  • Release what no longer serves you: Let go of habits, commitments or thoughts that drain your energy.
  • Recharge your body and mind: Prioritize sleep, hydration and movement to restore balance.
  • Set a tone, not a resolution: Choose one word or theme for the new year (e.g., “Balance,” “Growth,” “Joy”) to guide your decisions.
  • Connect with gratitude: Thank someone who made a positive impact on your life this year.

When you reflect and recharge, you give yourself the gift of a fresh start, not from pressure, but from purpose.

Closing the Year with Intention

Challenge: Host a “Gratitude Walk” or “Reflection Coffee” with a friend or family member. Spend 20–30 minutes walking outdoors or sitting together over a warm drink, sharing one thing you’re grateful for and one intention for the new year. This combines movement, connection, mindfulness and makes reflection a shared experience.
