15 Feb Building Healthy Habits That Stick
There’s no time like now!
It’s time to seize your future!
You’ll Never Know Unless You Try!
Little Changes can make Big Differences!
Start Where You Are– Use What You Have – Do What You Can!
It doesn’t have to cost a million dollars to attain wellness and balance in your life. In FACT, we’re not selling you a thing! Just little changes made to your daily schedule, diet, or exercise regimen CAN reap huge dividends! It’s not rocket science, although science does validate these words! Think for a moment:
Fresh air is free
Clean water is available for pennies
Sleep costs you nothing
You have arms, legs, feet, and can walk, jump, dance and move around.
You CAN learn to enjoy healthy foods! They CAN be prepared to bring delight to the senses!
This is an ADVENTURE! Discovery and joy await you on this journey!
All is attainable within your reach!
“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny”.
Just like it took practice to learn to crawl, walk and ride a bicycle, so you and I can learn new habits. Some habits are bad or undesirable, not producing what we need for health, and these can be broken. Some habits will need to be changed, or shifted; like eating breakfast for instance, or turning our cell phones off 30 minutes before bed to increase our melatonin. Some new habits will have to be formed, and this might be difficult. Even so, it’s all within your reach!
It’s been said that it takes a minimum of 35 repeated actions to form a single new habit. Modern research varies between 21 days to 254 to form a new habit, (don’t worry…that’s extreme!) but the consensus is across the board that there are some common ingredients to forming new habits and making it stick:
- Commit to 30 days
- Do it daily
- Keep it Simple!
- BE INTENTIONAL!
The word Intentional means “done on purpose; deliberate”. For some people, they are going to have to be intentional on each bite of food they take, or each step they take. Some of you will learn to savor life in a way you’ve not done in a long, long, time! It’s worth the journey is it not? YOU are worth this journey! One journalist wrote:
”When I sat down to analyze why I wasn’t going to the gym, I realized: my closet was in another room. That meant I had to walk out in the cold [to] put on my clothes. It was easier to just stay in bed. Once I realized this, I folded my clothes and shoes the night before. When I woke up the next morning, I would roll over and see my gym clothes sitting on the floor. The result? My gym attendance soared by over 300%.”
So in other words, we are on a new path for a new life, and it is an intentional journey. So we must be mindful, every day in fact, until it becomes a habit to be purposeful in our actions until it bec0mes like riding our bicycles. You CAN do it – and there is JOY in the journey!
